A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Bengkulu province on Saturday (30/1/2021) evening, forcing some residents outdoors.

"The quake was strongly felt for a few seconds. Even the wall of my house shook," Adrian M Yusuf, a local resident, said.

The quake, which struck at 5.22 p.m. local time, was felt across Bengkulu City and Bengkulu district and several parts of the neighboring provinces of South Sumatra and Lampung. There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.

The epicenter of the quake was located in the sea, 37 kilometers southwest of Seluma, Bengkulu, at a depth of 51 kilometers. However, no tsunami warning was issued.

As of 6.30 p.m., the Meteorology, Climatology Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported no signs of aftershocks. *ant
