After the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Bank (WB) meeting a few weeks ago. Now Bali is again entrusted as the host of the 14th International Palm Oil Conference (IPOC) for three days, 29-31 October 2018. The event held at Sofitel Nusa Dua Hotel. Bali Governor Wayan Koster had the opportunity accompanied the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in opening the event on Monday (29/10).

In his speech, President Jokowi said, Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer in the world. However, to maintain this position, it does not have to expand the land. "I want the productivity to be improved first. Don't lose to neighbouring countries, we are both smart," said President Jokowi.

Furthermore, President Jokowi stressed that the Indonesian oil palm sector is very good. However, there are still many challenges in developing the palm oil sector going forward, such as the rejuvenation of smallholder oil palm plantations, expansion of the export market, down streaming, and implementation of the B20 program. "The production of 42 million tons of palm oil is very large. The value of foreign exchange for exports reaches more than Rp300 trillion," the President said in front of 600 IPOC Opening participants.

Meanwhile, the largest palm oil conference in the world, IPOC, is an annual event organized by Gapki (Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association). This year, the theme of this conference is 'Palm Oil Development: Contribution to SDGs'. About 1,500 participants from 36 countries attended the IPOC 2018 & 2019 Price Outlook.

In the opening ceremony of IPOC, President Joko Widodo also presented prizes to the winners of the heaviest FFB (Fresh Fruit Bunch) competition and garden productivity. The heaviest FFB prize winner is Suparji, an oil palm farmer from South Sumatra, with 95 kilograms of FFB. While farmers with the highest productivity of 22.1 tons were won by KUD Petapahan Maju Bersama, Kampar Regency, Riau. *
