MONTPELLIER, NusaBali.com – Bali’s Jatiluwih Village, located in Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, has once again brought pride to Indonesia on the global stage. At the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2025 event held in Montpellier, France, on Tuesday (Sept 30), Jatiluwih was recognized as one of the world’s best sustainable destinations.

This year, Jatiluwih stood out as the only representative from Indonesia to make the prestigious list, competing against more than 600 destinations from 60 countries. Its inspiring story, titled “Green Miracle in a Cultural Heritage Living Museum”, highlighted how Bali’s traditional Subak irrigation system—recognized by UNESCO—can coexist with modern tourism without losing its soul.

The Green Destinations selection process is known for its rigorous standards, measuring environmental sustainability, community welfare, cultural preservation, and governance. Jatiluwih successfully demonstrated that harmony between nature, culture, and community is not just an idea but a daily reality.

“This award belongs to the entire Jatiluwih community. We preserve traditions not merely to be remembered, but to be lived by future generations,” said John Ketut Purna, Head of the Jatiluwih Tourism Management, who attended the ceremony to receive the award.

For the people of Jatiluwih, the recognition is more than just a certificate—it is global acknowledgment of the hard work of farmers, youth, and villagers who continue to keep the Subak alive. The rice fields they cultivate are not only a source of food but also a cultural legacy and a prayer etched into the land.

This achievement adds to Jatiluwih’s growing list of international accolades. In 2024, the village was named Best Tourism Village in the World by UN Tourism. Once again, Jatiluwih has proven itself a global beacon of sustainable tourism—showing that tourism can bring prosperity without sacrificing cultural roots and natural heritage.

Looking ahead, Jatiluwih is committed to upholding the principles of regenerative tourism. This means that tourism management in the village will not only maintain traditions, culture, and ecosystems but also help restore them. The goal is for every visitor to Jatiluwih to not just be a spectator, but to engage, learn, and take home inspiration on how to live in harmony with nature, culture, and community.
