PRAYA, NusaBali.com - State-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I at Lombok International Airport, West Nusa Tenggara, stated that flight activities at the airport were not affected by Mount Semeru's eruption in Lumajang, East Java, on Friday.

"Until now, there has been no impact," public relations staff of PT Angkasa Pura I - Lombok Airport, Arif Haryanto, remarked here on Saturday (January 14).

He said that flights from Lombok to Surabaya as well as other domestic and international flights were still running on the normal schedule.

"There are no flight delays, and everything is normal," he remarked.

He said the number of passengers at Lombok Airport  in the second week of January 2023 averaged 5,300 per day.

Earlier, Mount Semeru, with an altitude of 3,676 meters above sea level (masl), erupted volcanic smoke reaching 500 to 1,000 meters on Friday (January 13).

"Based on the report we received, the eruption occurred four times, with smoke reaching 500-1,000 meters high. The gray smoke flew towards the north and southwest," Head of Prevention and Preparedness at the Lumajang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Wawan Hadi Siswoyo, said.

Three lava avalanches were also observed, with a glide distance of 800 meters, towards Besuk Kobokan from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. local time on January 13, based on the report from the Semeru Volcano Observation Post officer in Mt. Sawur.

According to the report, it is natural for Mt. Semeru to erupt daily as its status remains at Level III or Alert.

"So far, no impact has occurred due to the Semeru eruption that emitted smoke reaching 1,000 meters high, but the quick response team continues to monitor developments in the field," the officer stated.

Meanwhile, Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) urged the public to not conduct any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, about 13 kilometers from Semeru's crater. *ant
