Indonesia Offers Adequate Quarantine Places for Foreign Travelers

JAKARTA, NusaBali.com - Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito affirmed that the capacity of quarantine places for foreign travelers was still adequate and echoed the Indonesian government's readiness to increase the number of quarantine facilities if the need arose.

"In principle, the capacity is adequate for quarantine. We are ready to increase it if there is an escalation," Adisasmito stated during a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday.

For instance, quarantine facilities, with 22,476 beds, are available for foreign travelers arriving at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten. Daily, on average, 1,745 travelers enter the quarantine place, while 1,367 travelers leave that place.

The spokesperson noted that a quarantine facility, with 3,038 beds, had also been readied to accommodate travelers having arrived from abroad via the Juanda International Airport in East Java.

Meanwhile, foreign travelers landing at the Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado City, North Sulawesi, will be provided 303 beds at the quarantine facilities.

In addition, quarantine facilities with 2,084 beds are available at the arrival point of Batam Port, quarantine facilities with 330 beds at the arrival point of Tanjung Pinang Port, and a quarantine facility with 576 beds at the arrival point of Nunukan Port.

The government also provides quarantine facilities with 650 beds at the arrival point in the State Border Post (PLBN) of Aruk, a quarantine place with 593 beds at the arrival point of PLBN Entikong, and a quarantine facility with 24 beds at the arrival point of PLBN Motaain.

Adisasmito noted that the arrival of foreign travelers at entry points to the Indonesian territory fluctuated from time to time.

The spokesperson remarked that the number of foreign tourist arrivals had increased for a while in December 2021 though thereafter decreased at the end of 2021.

Regarding cases of infection with the Omicron variant among travelers from abroad, Adisasmito explained that of the 123,313 people that came through the Soekarno-Hatta Airport from December 1, 2021, to January 15, 2022, some 3,923 passengers had contracted Covid-19, while 567 of them were infected with Omicron. *ant
